Everyone likes to grow bigger buds on their cannabis plants. If you’ve been doing your homework, you know that the best way to ensure you’re growing the biggest buds possible is to understand what nutrients your plants need and at what stage of growth you need to provide them.
Cannabis plants require various mixtures of three base nutrients—potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen—with other various nutrients. There are three stages of cannabis growth where fertilization is crucial:
- Vegetative phase
- Flowering phase
- Blooming (Harvesting) phase
During the vegetative stage, your cannabis plants will need a diluted fertilizer mix that is higher in nitrogen.
The flowering stage does not require your fertilizer to be diluted; however, it needs to be altered to contain more phosphorus and potassium. In addition, you’ll want to introduce magnesium, sulfur and calcium to your fertilizer mix.
The blooming stage requires a fertilizer with more calcium and phosphorus. Before fertilizing your cannabis plants, you need to make sure you know how your specific strain of cannabis blooms.
