Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) still opposes the legalization of marijuana, it recently revised its policy to support changing the federal classification. The current Schedule I classification essentially blocks many research studies on medical cannabis from even occurring.
In addition to this news, the AAP also changed its stance on adolescents and marijuana, saying they shouldn’t be subject to criminal charges for possessing the plant.
The group though has concerns about kids getting easy access, which is their main reason for continuing to oppose full legalization.
The AAP though endorses the prescription of medical cannabis to kids with life-threatening illnesses, but cautions that more research is needed.
Glad to see such an influential group move from being completely against cannabis to being open to studying the matter.
