A Canadian man stands as proof for the phrase “don’t try this at home.” In an attempt to make homemade cannabis oil, a man exploded the bedroom of his apartment. The event left him with severe burns (resulting in a 10-week hospital stay), $1,695 worth of damage and an arrest.
Curtis Winthrop has pled guilty on charges of making cannabis resin; as well as, making an explosion.
Winthrop says he decided to make cannabis oil using butane after watching an instructional video online. The resulting explosion sent the bedroom door backward off its hinges and sent the in-window air conditioning unit out of the living room window. Winthrop’s upstairs neighbor reported feeling the floor lift up from the force of the explosion. Additionally, the explosion started a fire.
This is not the first drug conviction for Winthrop who has prior convictions for growing cannabis.
Cannabis oils can be helpful in treating nausea, inflammation and anxiety; however, making your own (especially with such a volatile component as butane) is not recommended.
